Mount Judah Loop - September 15, 2012
This moderately strenuous hike provides great views of Lake Mary and Donner Lake. The climb involves rocky terrain in some places. Five miles and 1200' elevation gain to a peak height of 8200' . At the first rest stop you can marvel at the pioneers' determination at Roller Pass where they used logs as rollers under the wagons as they pulled them up the steep slope. The trail then winds down through a forest of hemlock and fir. The wildflowers are more lush on this side. We saw phlox. forget-me-not, and mule ear. We will eat lunch looking down on Donner Lake at the Dash N Dine Cafe in Colfax.
