Historic Donner Summit - June 19, 2010
We are heading to the Sierras to spend a wonderful and informative day. Our plan includes an easy 3 mile interpretive hike near Donner Summit, learning the history of the early pioneers and the building of the railroad, studying Indian petroglyphs at China Wall, and visiting abandon tunnels and overlooks to Donner Lake. Remember to bring a headlamp or flashlight for entering the tunnels. We will also visit Tahoe National Forest Big Bend Museum , hiking along the nearby rocks in search of the wagon wheel scars made by early pioneers. We will meet at Rainbow Lodge for lunch.
