Bassi Creek Loop Trail - August 18, 2012
"Not your ordinary hike in the woods". Come join us on an adventurous 6.5 mile trek through part of the Desolation Wilderness between Union and Loon Lakes. We'll walk through pine forest and fern glens, scramble scoured granite boulders, and cool off in the Bassi Creek. Wild flowers lined the path and butterflies were entertaining on the pre-hike; we hope some will still be there in August. The trail starts at the Tells Creek Equestrian Camp. The trail is varied because of horse-use so be prepared for rocks, dust, or even mud sometimes where the spring crosses. Before enjoying our snack at a shady spot at the creek, we will explore a hidden cabin. Because the trail is less traveled by hikers than horses, we must all stay alert to follow many cairns that will mark our way. After our hike we will meet at the Forester Restaurant in Camino for lunch.
