China Camp State Park - September 17, 2011
This beautiful state park in Marin County near San Rafael, preserves the last Chinese fishing village in the San Francisco bay area. Our 6.5 mile hike meanders through the forest and grassland above the marshland that borders China Camp. It's a varied route with alternating views of San Pablo Bay and canopied forests of madrone, oak, and bay. We will also pass through meadows with wild flowers. Our hike will end at China Camp Village, a 39-acre historical center, where we will tour the original old wooden buildings and pier. An authentic reproduction of a Chinese junk, Grace Quan, built in 2003 at the Maritime National Historic Park in San Francisco, is moored here. There is also a small museum with interpretive exhibits depicting life in the fishing village. We'll have lunch at the cafe on the China Camp Village grounds.
